Kristen Petersen doesn’t do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don’t get her. She’s also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children.
Planning her best friend’s wedding is bittersweet for Kristen–especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He’s funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family someday. Kristen knows he’d be better off with someone else, but as their attraction grows, it’s harder and harder to keep him at arm’s length.
The Friend Zone will have you laughing one moment and grabbing for tissues the next as it tackles the realities of infertility and loss with wit, heart, and a lot of sass.
Remind me in the future to never, ever read excerpts from books, even extended ones. Because nothing is worse than enjoying something and then boom! There’s no more available, and you’re stuck waiting for weeks to find out what happens! To be honest, I usually don’t but I have been looking forward to this book for SO long that I couldn’t hold out any longer…and boom. (Sob!) I also have to admit that rom coms usually are not my first choice (no hot guys with guns) but this one is special and that is 100% due to Abby.
For those of you who may not be aware, Abby is the owner of Nadia Cakes and a previous winner of the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars. So right there she has a leg up on EVERY other author I read because I’m a big fan of cupcakes! (Unfortunately both literally and figuratively, and I don’t live anywhere near any of her stores, another sob!) But now you’re really confused, aren’t you? What do cupcakes have to do with me wanting to read her book? This woman is freaking hilarious on social media and it’s my kind of humor too so I have been dying to see if the book contained her signature humor, and boy does it!
Does a traffic accident qualify as a meet cute? Because that’s how this story starts with Josh rear-ending Kristen in traffic. (And for a certain reader, that is not a euphemism, get your mind out of the gutter! You know who you are…) The humor starts quickly and you can just tell from the get go that these 2 are made for each other. I defy anyone to not get sucked into the storyline immediately!
While this is not a true review since I have not read the whole book, I wanted to make sure that all of you know that you NEED this book immediately upon release on the 11th! I am waiting (not so) patiently myself and have already preordered my copy!
Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and Netgalley for the ‘taste’ (heh!) of what is to come with this debut novel!
