Disavowed (NYPD Blue & Gold #3) – Tee O’Fallon (Review)

Expected publication date: August 28, 2017

Cover blurb:

NYPD Detective Dom Carew can’t forget the violent way his lover was killed in Afghanistan fifteen years ago. The pain and trauma of her death still haunt him, and since then he hasn’t let a woman under his skin. Until one incredible, hot and steamy night with stunning and sassy Daisy Fowler.

Sexy, gorgeous, and hunky doesn’t begin to describe Dom Carew, but Daisy’s been burned by Dom before. A year ago, he bolted from her bed in the middle of the night without so much as a gee you were great in the sack, babe. Never laying eyes on his handsome face again is the plan. If only their paths didn’t keep crossing. If only she didn’t still find him irresistible as sin.

Seeing Daisy again sets Dom’s blood on fire, but he’s about to embark on the most dangerous undercover op of his life—infiltrate the Pyramid, an international organization of assassins. Love has no place in his heart or his world, but when the dangers of his job threaten Daisy, he’ll destroy anyone in his path to protect her.

Wow, I really am a cover ho, aren’t I?  Another hunky chest, big gun (NOT a euphemism, thank you very much!) and just a hint of a face!  Hi, my name is FF and I’m a hot-guy-romantic-suspense addict.  It’s even better when the book lives up to the cover, and while I have to admit this one was my least favorite in the series, I still enjoyed the read!

Dom and Daisy met in the 2nd book in the series as the best friends of Gray and Alex respectively, and they had a steamy one night affair before Dom ducked out in the middle of the night.  They have seen each other a couple of times, but Daisy refuses to get involved with him again…okay, that doesn’t last, of course!

The threat from the Pyramid syndicate is heating up, and Dom goes undercover to try and take them down.  This involves getting ‘fired’ from the detective job he has worked so hard for by appearing to be drunk on the job and stealing Oxycontin from the evidence room.  His main target Jack is a former Delta soldier that Dom had served with, and he is stunned to find Jack working as a delivery driver for Daisy’s flower shop.  That ramps up the danger, and leads to the ultimate conclusion…but I’ll leave that part for you to find out!

While I liked Dom’s willingness to do whatever he needs to in order to take down the bad guys (and as a pharmacy professional, I particularly appreciated the Oxycontin reference), he’s kind of a jerk. He lost the only other woman he ever cared about in Afghanistan, and he doesn’t want to take a chance on love again.  There are definitely things about their relationship that I liked, but it’s not as strong (to me) as Gray and Alex or Mike and Cassie’s from the previous books.  The smexy parts were hot, but I think I actually liked the suspense storyline more than the romance, which is kind of weird probably!

I would definitely recommend the series for those who haven’t read it previously, because Tee’s law enforcement background brings a realism that a lot of other books don’t have.  Thanks to Netgalley and Entangled for the ARC!
