Wanted for Life (Love Under Fire #2) – Allison B. Hanson (Review)

Expected publication date: April 23, 2018

Cover blurb:

Deputy Marshal Angel Larson has been set up and accused of murder. On the run, desperate to stay one step ahead of the law and the real killer, she turns to a former protectee in a small town—the man who’s haunted her dreams…and fantasies…ever since.

Former DEA agent Colton Williamson misses the action of his past life since entering witness protection as a high school math teacher. He also misses Angel, who refused to join him in his new life. Now it’s Angel who’s in trouble, and Colton can’t help but be there for her—before it’s too late.

But the killer may be closer to them than they think.

I have been anxiously awaiting the follow-up to the first novel in this series (see my review for ‘Witness in the Dark’) because the first book was SO good!  I will say that I didn’t get as attached to the characters in this story (except for Pudge!) but I really enjoyed the story.

U.S. Deputy Marshal Angel Larson has been posing as the girlfriend of a high visibility tech magnate when she awakes one morning to find herself covered in blood and her protectee deadm, and a valuable piece of technology missing.  Realizing she has been framed, she knows she has to run before she’s arrested for his murder, unfortunately her first-choice of hideout has been compromised.  Her only choice is a former DEA agent Colton Williamson whom she had been protecting…and fallen in love with before leaving him when he asked her to join him in hiding.

Colton was forced to join WITSEC when a Russian mobster he had been testifying against escaped and went to ground.  Leaving his life as a DEA agent and his family behind has taken a toll, and left him restless. The chance to help Angel will give him excitement and maybe even a chance to find out why she walked out on him.  Toss in his unruly dog Pudge that remembers and loves Angel as well, and he can’t turn her away.

The resulting story line is a wild ride of danger with some humor thrown in, mainly from Pudge and a high school student that Colton is mentoring.  There is a LOT of really well written suspense, and the bad guy is someone I didn’t expect which is always a high point for me!  I think lovers of romantic suspense will definitely enjoy this book, and while it can be read as a stand-alone, this is one I’d recommend reading the series in order.  (If only because I loved the first book so much!

Thank you to Netgalley and Entangled Amara for the chance to read this early, and keep me in mind for the next book in the series, hint hint!
